Kate's Point of View

How were you introduced to Ayurveda?

I discovered Ayurveda in South India while studying yoga. My struggle with parasites brought me to an Ayurvedic clinic in the area where I underwent panchakarma with no idea what was going on! It changed my life and I never looked back.

When are you most likely to go out of balance and how do you bring yourself back in balance using Ayurveda?

Spring is the most difficult time for me. I think this is because in my climate we have a very long winter and the Kapha accumulation feels heavy. I am usually managing Data, so its taken some time for me to learn more about Kapha management. I use trikatu daily in hot water, avoid baked goods, and make it a point to do exercise in the morning every day. This seems to do the trick.

What does the future of Ayurveda look like to you?

I believe Ayurveda is going to enter the public consciousness as Yoga did, over the course of the next decade or so. I expect it will go through some commercialization, but come out the other side with full integrity. There is something about the essence of Ayurveda and how it is shared that will continue to come across clear.

What's one Ayurvedic practice anyone can implement to spur change in their life, right here, right now?

Reduce snacking! It may be one of the toughest, but allowing each meal to completely digest is definitely a key to sound digestion (which is the key to everything else!)
