Ayurvedic Herbal Supplements
It’s true that we are fortunate to be able to nourish ourselves in a multitude of ways. And yet, it’s also true that our lives are full and busy, and we may not always take advantage of the opportunities available to us. Simply put, we aren’t always able to take the time to prepare a wholesome meal. This is one reason we may lean on dietary supplements. Nutritional supplements are a simple way to fill in the empty pockets of our food and lifestyle choices, using natural remedies, plants from nature, and herbs known for their positive health effects. For millennia, humans have relied on plants, not only for food, but for their health promoting qualities. At Banyan Botanicals, we are proud to have taken nature’s wisdom, scientific knowledge, and the 5000-year-old tradition of Ayurveda to give you truly superb organic Ayurvedic herbs and supplements.
Ayurvedic Supplements
Unique to Ayurveda is the fundamental concept of taste, or rasa. It is important as the first stage in digestion, and also because the tastes—sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent—have their own distinct and vital energies. According to Dr. Frawley, in The Yoga of Herbs, “Taste stimulates nerves, awakens mind and senses to make us lively. Thus taste sets our own rasa or vital fluid in motion.” Taste is the primary reason we offer our Ayurvedic herbs in tablet form. Herbal tablets offer a benign and peaceful introduction to herbal supplements and make an easy addition to your daily self-care routine.
What You Can Expect From Our Herbal Supplements
Unlike many dietary supplements in which certain constituents have been isolated, Vitamin C, for example, our herbal supplements contain the whole herb. If it is a root like ashwagandha, the root is dried in its whole form then ground into a powder, thus no single constituent has been isolated and the plant’s fiber is still intact, keeping the integrity of the plant intact. Our proprietary blends are a synergistic combination of multiple herbs powdered in their whole form. Moreover, we work with fair trade farmers through long standing relationships to source sustainable harvested, certified organic herbs.
Popular Uses for Herbal Supplements
Some of the more popular uses for herbal supplements are better sleep, weight management, decreased stress, healthy skin and hair, and joint health. Some of Banyan’s most popular supplements include Triphala, Healthy Hair tablets, I Sleep Soundly, and Joint Support. If you are unsure where to start, our Ayurvedic Profile™ quiz can offer valuable insight and also guide you to product choices specific to your unique constitution and current state of being.
Do Ayurvedic Supplements Work?
Humans have used plants for their beneficial properties for thousands of years. Perhaps unique to Ayurveda is the concept of the individual—what may work for one, may not work for another. Sometimes it is a process of trial and error to find just the right combination for you. With that said, we also recommend giving an herb or formula a trial period of 4–6 weeks, as there is a cumulative effect as the herb penetrates the body’s tissue layers. And, for herbs to work, you need to take them! Here is a helpful guide to Taking Your Herbs.
Do Herbal Supplements Expire?
Technically, the plant is preserved during the drying process. And while we do give our tablets an expiration date, unless herbs become contaminated, particularly by moisture, they are more apt to lose potency over time rather than expire as a food item would. Hardy herb parts like roots, stems, barks, and seeds retain their potency for many years, whereas the more fragile plant parts like leaves and flowers will lose their potency more quickly. Storage is big when it comes to herbs. Keeping them stored in a cool, dry place, and even in a dark location, can have a major influence on extending the lifespan of an herbal product, tablets included.
Are They Safe?
Our entire line of supply is inspected by independent 3rd party certifying agencies guaranteeing that the USDA’s stringent organic standards are met, and our herbs are formulated to exacting standards. In addition to being certified organic, look for a Non-GMO Project logo on our product labels. Furthermore, if, for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, we offer a 90-day Return Policy. Simply return the product and we will refund you for the price of the item.
