About Sharing Content & Referrals.

OpenAI.com is an innovative artificial intelligence resource that can be used to enhance learning and help students better understand complex topics. However, it is important to use this resource responsibly, recognize frequent inaccuracy, and avoid plagiarism.

As this funny SouthPark video explains, it is very obvious when students plagiarize from chatGPT or other bots - which can result in expulsion from the course.

Therefore, the following policy offers guidelines for using artificial intelligence as an aid for learning in the course.

Benefits of Using OpenAI.com

Access to a wealth of information

OpenAI.com and other artificial intelligence provides access to vast amounts of information on a wide range of topics, which can be helpful for students who are struggling to find relevant sources for their homework assignments. OpenAI can often answer obscure questions and save you time. Examples:

Enhancing critical thinking skills

By using OpenAI.com, students can engage in critical thinking and problem-solving, as they navigate through various articles and sources to find relevant information.

Improved understanding of complex topics

OpenAI.com can help students better understand complex topics by providing explanations, definitions, and examples that may be difficult to find elsewhere.

Example Questions to Ask an AI Bot

  • Research - Note how we avoid asking a leading question here - we are not suggesting what Tulsi properties are.
    • Is Tulsi inflammatory, anti-inflammatory or neither? Please give scholarly references in your responses.
  • Conceptual understanding - Note ChatGPT usually gets this wrong.
    • Explain how a Vata person could have low thyroid?
  • Determining a constitution - Note how we specify here exactly what to include in the response:
    • List the doshas and gunas of a client with uterine fibroids, low thyroid, high cholesterol, big boned. Do not list the doshas and gunas of each disease, but of the client only. Do not give me an introduction or summary. Explain why for each guna and dosha.
  • Finding herbs ideas for a client - Note how we don't ask ChatGPT to make a recommendation, to avoid triggering its liability self-protection.
    • What herbs were traditionally used for uterine fibroids, low thyroid, high cholesterol, big boned.
  • Finding recipe Ideas
    • Give me 3 breakfast recipes for a Vata client with diabetes and a dairy, nut, beef, and grain allergy. Limit each recipe to 3 ingredients. Do not give me an introduction or summary.
  • Finding herbs for a disease
    • What are 3 herbs for asthma that are Kapha pacifying?
  • Finding lifestyle ideas
    • List lifestyle behaviors compatible with the doshas and gunas of a client with uterine fibroids, low thyroid, high cholesterol, big boned. Make sure none of the suggestions are contraindicated. Do not give me an introduction or summary. Explain why for each lifestyle choice.

Guidelines for Using OpenAI.com

Use OpenAI.com as a supplement to other sources

OpenAI.com should be used to supplement other sources, such as textbooks, lectures, and other academic materials. It should not be used as the sole source of information for homework assignments, as it is frequently wrong.

Avoid plagiarism

AI can help students avoid plagiarism by helping them paraphrase the information they found in research papers. However, students always need to check whether AI has accurately reproduced the information Students should not copy and paste content from AI tools into their homework assignments. Instead, they should use the information they find to help them formulate their own thoughts and ideas. There are numerous tools out there to detect whether a student is plagiarizing Ai.

Cite sources

If students use information from OpenAI.com in their homework assignments, they must properly cite sources using the appropriate citation style.

A word of warning: ChatGPT is also known for fabricating references (see example).

Use critical thinking skills

Chat-GPT is often wrong. Students should engage in critical thinking when using OpenAI.com, and should not simply accept information at face value because it is frequently wrong. Students must question the accuracy and reliability of the information they find, and use their own judgment to determine whether it is relevant to their assignment.

By following these guidelines, students can use OpenAI.com in a way that is beneficial and conducive to learning, while avoiding plagiarism and other academic integrity violations.
