Academic Excellence

Joyful Belly makes excellent use of modern teaching methods and multimedia to bring ancient Ayurveda up close and personal. Our certification courses are rigorous and challenging - to ensure you have the confidence to succeed in your future Ayurveda career. And, with ample breaks and the flexibility that online programs offer, it is doable for students with busy lives, a family, and a job.

Our online Ayurveda courses will ask you to stretch yourself, as all instigators of great change do. Our teachers use their extensive experience alongside the rich wisdom of the ancient texts to give you an in-depth understanding of the Ayurvedic system. We train our teachers in active learning techniques to greatly improve retention rates and ability to apply the knowledge clinically.

We are here to help set you up for success, both in your own wellness journey and the health of your clients. Your online Ayurveda course enables you to engage with clients and their symptoms from a truly informed place. John Immel, our founder, uses his training as a Harvard mathematician to provide penetrating, clear, and logical insight into the Ayurveda texts and clinical pathology.

Practical and Experiential

Ayurveda is often described as mystical or abstract with little real, concrete information given. Medical training is frequently diluted when schools bundle other faith healing techniques such as astrology into Ayurveda's paradigm, even though this goes against WHO curriculum standards. Since it is our job to equip informed practitioners, we take a more practical & clinical approach.

Great teaching takes more than knowledge - it includes the ability to communicate. The mark of a great academic is the ability to explain complex ideas in simple terms, while retain the full depth and scope of practice. Our teacher never hide their lack of knowledge by using difficult or obscure vocabulary words. At Joyful Belly, we will explain Ayurveda's richness using simple, practical, experiential terms making it instantly relatable and easily adopted into your clients' health & wellness routines.

We go beyond academic study and guide students in really experiencing Ayurveda through the hands-on, experiential exercises. This is done with food experiments, self-observation, and practicing with others. Ours is not simply a read-from-a-book course. Rather you will be encouraged to get inquisitive and roll up your sleeves to really feel what Ayurveda is all about. You'll be living Ayurvedically!

Communication

No matter the subject, all learning depends on clear, effective communication. In the beginning, Ayurveda is like learning to speak a new language or using a new set of muscles in the gym. It can seem stiff at first but with the support of the right school, the teachings will soon be deeply ingrained and never forgotten. We are the only Ayurveda school that provides ongoing teacher training in pedagogy (the art of teaching) for all of our teachers.

This path often spurs a paradigm shift in the student, ultimately changing not only how you relate to your health, but your whole pattern of thinking. Every student has days where it feels like their head could explode with so much new information! To ensure all of our students feel supported through these stages of change, Joyful Belly is committed to delivering content that would satisfy any professor, while explaining it all so simply that the concepts can be understood by all of our students.

Community

Joyful Belly students enroll from countries all over the world, yet each class forms a tight community. Despite our Ayurveda courses being online there is a constant sense of community between our students, teachers and support staff. Our team is a small one. You will get to know us well during your time with Joyful Belly. Everyone is readily approachable and here to help you reach your goals and assist you on your Ayurvedic journey.

We understand that community is essential in a course as demanding as ours. Your class Facebook account acts as your 24-hour hub of assistance where, no matter your timezone, you are fully supported in your learning. You are never alone in navigating the changes in perception that Ayurveda inevitably brings. Every student faces it and you can find support in seconds - whether it's with lifestyle advice, recipe tips or planning your schedule.

About John Joseph Immel

About the Author

John Immel, the founder of Joyful Belly, teaches people how to have a healthy diet and lifestyle with Ayurveda biocharacteristics. His approach to Ayurveda is clinical, yet exudes an ease which many find enjoyable and insightful. John also directs Joyful Belly's School of Ayurveda, offering professional clinical training in Ayurveda for over 15 years.

John's interest in Ayurveda and specialization in digestive tract pathology was inspired by a complex digestive disorder acquired from years of international travel, as well as public service work in South Asia. John's commitment to the detailed study of digestive disorders reflects his zeal to get down to the roots of the problem. His hope and belief in the capacity of each & every client to improve their quality of life is nothing short of a personal passion. John's creativity in the kitchen and delight in cooking for others comes from his family oriented upbringing. In addition to his certification in Ayurveda, John holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Harvard University.

John enjoys sharing Ayurveda within the context of his Catholic roots, and finds Ayurveda gives him an opportunity to participate in the healing mission of the Church. Jesus expressed God's love by feeding and healing the sick. That kindness is the fundamental ministry of Ayurveda as well. Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his wife and 7 kids, and pursuing his love of theology, philosophy, and language.
