What can one do for Hashimoto's thyroiditis?
Ayurveda traditionally recommended an ojas building diet and regular meal times and sleeping routine to pacify high Vata. Coconut oil specifically nourishes the thyroid and metabolism. Hashimoto's is quite complicated, maybe think about a consultation.
John, the information is very good. One thing that I feel very confused about is the recommendation to add more food with hot, sharp, and mobile qualities for people with an aggravated pitta. I am a Pitta-Vatta individual and suffer from vitiated Kapha in connection with Hypothyroidism. My problem always seems to get better with a Kapha-pacifying diet but, at the same time, it aggravates Pitta and Vata. How is this to be handled? Also, I notice that recommended foods like Kelp definitely increase my iodine but also drive down my body temperature way too much.
It sounds like you would benefit from a one on one consultation so that we could create a plan tailored for your unique needs. One thing that may help is to follow a Kapha pacifying diet emphasizing more bitter and astringent tastes (which also pacify Pitta) and following a good daily routine to pacify Vata. It's hard to get more specific with such little information about you.
