How can a food be sattvic and tamasic at the same time? I've seen many like these.
Cottage cheese is generally easy to digest and calming for Vata. A small amount can be sattvic and ojas building. However, in excess the heavy quality of cheese predominates and causes a person to become sleepy. Have a great day!
Dear Lori,
Dairy is generally considered sattvic because production does not involve violence to either plants or animals. It also calms and soothes the mind. It is tamasic because it can make a person sleepy. Dairy is difficult to digest. For Vata people with weak digestion, anything difficult to digest provokes Vata. If you can digest dairy, however, the oily and sweet qualities of dairy are Vata pacifying. Hope this helps! Warm Regards,
Cottage cheese combined with nuts may be difficult to digest.
